Petra

Carved into a rock face, Petra has been an important site for travellers in Jordan for millennia. A product of the little-known Nabatean people, Petra has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Since then, it has been a place of trade between the Jordan and its surrounding nations. This has been true for the Romans, The Byzantine empire and countless others. Petra itself consists of a wide array of architecture including temples, churches, cisterns and tunnels, giving it a vastness beyond its simple appearance.

The design of Petra’s tombs and entrance are often described as a great artistic achievement while also acting as a practical achievement with a water supply system that was revolutionary for its age. Despite the recent wear and tear those thousands of years of use have placed onto Petra, it remains one of the most breath-taking sights in the world, earning it the title of one of its seven new wonders.
